Rural housing enablers have played a crucial role in recent years of providing much-needed support and housing opportunities across the region. The enablers work closely with communities to understand issues they face, such as affordability and availability, as well as suggest solutions.
The work involves identifying the local need for housing and searching for development opportunities or empty properties to bring back into use. Anglesey County Council have identified a site near the Garnedd in Llanfair that could possibly used to develop affordable housing for local people. The Rural Housing Enabler’s are holding a review to identify if there is a need for affordable housing in the area and what type of houses local people need. Rural Housing Enablers (RHEs) are independent experts working in rural communities in Wales identifying housing and other needs supporting the delivery of homes for local people. Rural Housing Enablers (RHE) work with and on behalf of rural communities in many areas of Wales to address the shortage of affordable homes. Rural Housing Enablers currently operate in North West Wales and in Brecon. Nine Partners are currently supporting the Rural Housing Enabler’s work in North West Wales to cover the counties of Gwynedd, Anglesey, Conwy and North Powys.

The Anglesey Rural Housing Enabler (RHE) appointed in April 2009 is funded jointly by the Local Authority, the Welsh Government [WG] and the 3 Housing Associations that operate on Anglesey.
